Event: COMPLETED / Town Hall: Equity, Access and Investment in Arts and Culture
When: Wed, Jul 10 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Description: Groups: Committee-Production, Committee-Marketing, Committee-Artistic, Board of Directors

Info: UPDATE:
10 July 2019 – Attended by Tony Halstead
The Town Hall was not what was projected in the Cultural Arts Division (CAD) Notice.
There was really no substantive information given on the way-ahead. It turns out that this was the initial phase/act of a 6 month review of the CAD Funding process being performed by an outside consulting firm.

At the start the room held about 200 participants. Then after 1 hour of Corp Retreat style group activities, about 1/2 of the room left.
The take away impression I got was that this Town Hall was the external consultant’s attempt to get Austin Arts groups together to meet and talk to each other…… that may have been beneficial if we really knew who we were interacting with.

There will be more Town Halls that might provide information on just what CAD FY21 Funding will look like. The Board is encouraged to monitor and prepare for changes in the AGMC S32 application for the CAD FY21 Funding.

Wednesday evening (7/10) from 7-9 pm at the ACC Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Road Room 9107, Austin, Texas 78702), focused around Equity, Access, and Investment in Arts and Culture. It will be recorded and Spanish language interpreters will be available.

The public is invited to attend a community town hall meeting regarding the review of the Cultural Funding and related programs provided by the Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department of the City of Austin. As we consider the increasing number cultural funding applications, flattening Hotel Occupancy Tax receipts, and the City’s commitment to equity and inclusion, community participation is critical in framing recommendations to chart a path forward and provide responsive and inclusive cultural services to our residents and visitors to the city.

ACC Eastview Campus | Multipurpose Hall (MPH) 8500
3101 Webberville Road, Austin, TX 78702

The town hall meeting has one central goal – to hear directly from residents, so that we better understand the challenges – and opportunities – associated with the city’s cultural resources and making them more available to more residents. This meeting will be facilitated by MJR Partners, a Texas-based team of arts management professionals and arts practitioners, who will help identify and plan for adjustments in our work that aligns with The City of Austin Strategic Direction 2023.

Spanish translators will be provided at the meeting. The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Reasonable Modifications and Equal Access to communications will be provided upon request. Free onsite parking will be available. Please contact Alberto Mejia at Alberto.Mejia@austintexas.gov or (512) 974-7875, with questions or concerns.

More information on MJR Partners, their scope, key phases of the Review process, and tentative timeline can be found here.
